Last summer I had the opportunity to go to the Nibakure Children's Village in Rwanda. It was an absolutely amazing experience where I got to learn about the culture and history of a very war torn country. In case you didn't know- Rwanda experienced a terrible genocide in 1994. It lasted 100 days and roughly one million people were killed. The war broke out based on silly classifications that had nothing to do with who they were; basically it would be if we were to say "let's kill everyone with blue eyes." Scary.

While in country we traveled to memorials and heard stories of people who survived the genocide and how it has affected the country since then. We were able to participate in community activities, learn from the children in the orphanage, and experience a country like none other.
