Towson University Student Council on Family Relations (TUSCFR)

Leadership Opportunities
Secretary
After joining TUSCFR in my Freshman year I became quickly involved with the board. I was elected Secretary for the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 school year. I was in charge of sending out lots of emails to the general members, taking notes during meetings to be distribtued to people who could not attend the meeting, and keeping a record of attendence both in meetings and at service events. It was a fun job and I got to meet a lot of people while getting more involved in my major and doing service in the Baltimore Area.
President
I was elected President for the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 school year. Along with my other board members I worked to pormote the club on campus and in the Family Studies department, plan service events and fundraisers, and try to grow the club. As President I do most of the oversight work, talking with teachers and with Towson to get our funding and promote what we do. It can be time consuming but just like any job, it is extremely rewarding.
Professional Development
National Council on Family Relations Annual Conference
In November 2014 I had the opportunity to attend the National Council on Family Relations Annual Conference in Baltimore, Maryland. I was a presider for the Diverse Families and Globalization presentation. I also attended some of the workshops on topics such as International Family Studies Masters Programs, Students and New Professionals workshops, International Research opportunities and many others. As President of the Towson Chapter I was able to attend a President's breakfast with other chapter Presidents where we talked and brainstormed ideas for our clubs. After the breakfast I had the opportunity to attend a student workshop with my board and some general members where we were able to come up with ideas to further the impact our club can make.
Service
TUSCFR members are required to participate in at two service projects or one project and make a donation to whatever drive we might be doing. I have made many Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches in my time with the club as well as donated books, winter clothes, and diapers. Please visit my Volunteer Work Blog to read about the other projects I have participated in.
